Canon From Game: Laguna Loire is a male character who is an ex-soldier. He is now a journalist who has the respect of all around him. Very honorable, this character will stand up and protect his rights and those of the people around him. Unlike Squall, Laguna is a man of heart. He knows love and respects his duties.

Before he became a journalist, he had been a soldier and he contributed his articles to magazines because he wanted to be a journalist. He is optimistic and cheerful, and trusted by his fellows. Judging by his uniform, it seems that he is a Galbaldian soldier, which means he will be Squall's enemy in some point in the game.

Laguna's first name has an obvious familiarity: it comes from Laguna Beach in California. Additionally, his name also comes from the word Ragnarok (which is the name of one of Cloud's more powerful swords in Final Fantasy VII). In Japanese, the word is pronounced lagunarok.
